Cirrus Aircraft today unveiled a new, destination-inspired Limited Edition aircraft to commemorate the 9,000th SR Series aircraft delivery. The 9,000th Limited Edition SR Series reflects the thousands of Cirrus Aircraft owners who embody the Cirrus Life™ empowering them to travel to different destinations without constraint or boundaries. Whether it is to grow one’s business, spend time with family or explore the world, Cirrus aircraft owners are experiencing more from the comfort of their advanced, luxurious SR Series aircraft.

“The SR Series continues to move people, businesses and imaginations as we reach another significant delivery milestone,” said Zean Nielsen, Chief Executive Officer of Cirrus Aircraft. “Our talented Xi Design Studio collected inspiration through the lens of our customers and the worldwide travel and freedom personal aviation offers. The 9,000th SR Series delivery means that 9,000 owners are living the Cirrus Life enabled by the best-selling high-performance piston aircraft in the industry for over two decades. The SR Series is one of the safest aircraft as it includes the Cirrus Airframe Parachute System® (CAPS®) and a suite of integrated safety features as standard equipment. Through our expanded aircraft ownership ecosystem, we are excited to continue introducing more people to Personal Aviation™.”

From the onset of the Cirrus aircraft ownership experience, customers work alongside the company’s Xi Design Studio to personalize their new aircraft. Founded in 2009, the Xi Design Studio carefully curates an exclusive experience leveraging advanced technology, world-class engineering and a leading-edge Paint and Finish Facility to build a one-of-a-kind Cirrus aircraft.

Cirrus Aircraft’s Xi Design Studio showcases its artistic prowess through the compelling Limited Edition’s bold design and color collection. Thematically named Limited Edition designs, ‘Balos,’ ‘Lava,’ ‘Magma’ and ‘Santorini’ were inspired by different international destinations and illustrate the company’s range of premium and bespoke paint schemes. In partnership with Sherwin-Williams, Cirrus Aircraft reformulated signature hues, namely, Lava orange and Aegean blue, to create a bold and eclectic splash of color.

To commemorate 9,000 SR Series deliveries, the number nine was thematically integrated throughout the design. The ‘9’ iconography inspired the sleek and aerodynamic lines on the fuselage, along with the many exterior graphic details. The theme continues inside the cabin with several custom touches on the seats and embroidery.

With the release of the 9,000th Limited Edition, Cirrus Aircraft introduced newly designed Cirrus All-Weather Floor Liners engineered for adventure travel to protect the aircraft floor from mud, sand, water, dirt and more. Each liner features a customized badge commemorating the delivery milestone. Standard SR Series All-Weather Floor Liners for G1-G6 aircraft are available for purchase. Additionally, every 9,000th Limited Edition SR Series aircraft owner will be outfitted with the newly announced Bose A30 Aviation Headset and Garmin® International’s D2™ Aviation watch with custom bands matching the 9,000th livery for a premium flight experience.

Meticulous craftsmanship, bespoke design and daring colors turn heads with the 9,000th Limited Edition SR Series and are a testament to Cirrus Aircraft’s customers’ unwavering passion to seek new experiences and travel the world.

Kevin was one of the first to take delivery of the Special Edition Australis. Even though this aircraft was custom designed for the Australian pilot, Kevin and his Cirrus really were made for each other. “How this all happened was an accumulation of many years traveling Australia for business, and the final motivation was, well, I am not getting any younger. If I didn’t buy the Australis now, then I never would,” he explained. Kevin’s business is in aviation. His company operates airports for mining companies and local government. Their employees are spread across Northern and Western Australia, the largest part of the country. This meant that Kevin was required to travel unbelievable distances every day.

“Until 10 years ago, I drove to all these places. Huge kilometres were travelled, often overnight, so I could get a full day’s work in at the next airport. It was not unusual to drive up to 1500 kilometres (933 miles) in a day. Driving in Australia at night means running into Kangaroos and other wildlife, something abhorred. So, being in aviation and traveling long distances, getting a pilot license and flying was logical,” said Kevin. With his previous aircraft, he was strictly an A to B flyer, not a mad flying junkie. Kevin’s first aircraft was a 1984 Trinidad TB20, and he then upgraded to a 2002 TB21 GT Trinidad. Kevin’s run-in with Cirrus Aircraft came in October 2014 when Cirrus had a demonstration day in Cairns, North Queensland.

“I was in the area on vacation, and I decided to take a closer look at the Cirrus. A 45-minute flight in the Cirrus showed me that I had just stepped into the BMW of aircraft. The Cirrus had a solid, smooth feel, and I wanted one. The decision to buy was hard considering I already owned a competent aircraft, and the purchase of the luxurious aircraft meant borrowing money,” said Kevin. He worked with the helpful crew at Cirrus Sunshine Coast to purchase his Australis. Kevin appreciated that no question was too basic for them. Cirrus Sunshine Coast also works with Interlease in Melbourne who understands aircraft financing, and they put Kevin in touch with Interlease to help make his want of owning a Cirrus become a reality.

With his Australis at his side, Kevin has now flown over 150 hours since delivery on June 4, 2015. “At first there was much to absorb with the learning curve between my 2002 Trinidad and this all-new, All-Digital 2015 aircraft, but now, I am much more confident. I’m obtaining an understanding of everything that Cirrus Perspective™ by Garmin® offers. The immediate advantages of my Australis were fuel savings, range and uplift,” he said. With the great differences between aircraft, Kevin experienced many unforeseen advantages of the Australis that surpassed all expectations.

In Western Australia, Avgas facilities are few and far in between. Legs in excess of three hours are usual, only to arrive at an airport where fuel is not available. Another two-hour leg is required to get to the closest place with fuel, creating a huge drawback to flying across this area. This, however, is no problem for the Australis. With his aircraft, Kevin gets excellent range, and stops just for fuel are less frequently required. Although Kevin admired the capabilities of his new aircraft, he had one big concern when considering the Cirrus purchase – its ability to land on unsealed surfaces.

“So far, we have landed on a dozen unsealed runways, and one in particular was rough and very unprepared. I am glad to say, no damage has occurred, and the wheel pants actually protect the underside from stones and mud, another positive side to the Australis,” commented Kevin. He often goes on long trips with the aircraft as well. Being away for up to three months, the aircraft is packed. Kevin fills the airplane with personal gear, computers, printers and survey equipment; a load the Australis is very capable of handling. Kevin has found that his Cirrus can take on any destination or distance that he throws its way. The Australis is more than suitable for this traveller of the vast Australian outback.

“I would like to thank Ross Harrison, Cirrus Sunshine Coast; Andy Hartell, Cirrus Sunshine Coast and Colin White, Interlease Pty Ltd for their assistance in this acquisition,” finished Kevin.

Jason gave the Cirrus Design team a run for their money with one of the most challenging paint schemes ever created for his custom aircraft. Ambitious. Jason had great ambitions for every aspect of becoming a Cirrus owner. “I was on a hell-bent mission to get my Private Pilot License. Driving back and forth 250 miles each way for business from the central coast of California to Los Angeles was too hard on my family and me. Flying became the only solution,” said Jason. In January 2015, he decided he would learn how to fly, but what plane would he buy? Jason laughed when recalling the story behind choosing Cirrus.

“I was talking to my girlfriend about it, and she told me that celebrities owned and flew in Cirrus aircraft. I decided to do some research, and people were calling it the Lamborghini of small aircraft. I told myself that I might as well just buy the plane I know I’m going to want,” he explained. Good enough for the stars was good enough for Jason because he put a down payment on a fully loaded 2015 SR22T before even flying in one.

The decision to purchase his Cirrus right away gave Jason the unbreakable goal of cranking out training to get his Private Pilot License before taking delivery of the aircraft in July 2015. He had the plane, so he had to become a pilot. Jason earned his license while training at his local Cirrus Training Center (CTC), CalAir Aviation. “It was a crazy mission, but I accomplished it and had a great time doing it! When taking delivery of my aircraft, the factory training I received at Cirrus Corporate Headquarters was also unbelievable in the best way. Cirrus corporate pilot Peter Larson went with every kooky request I asked. I wanted true cross-country, mountain, high altitude and instrument flying. They told me the sky was the limit,” said Jason.

This motivation gave Jason the additional goal of reaching Leadville Airport – North America’s highest altitude airport with an elevation of 9,927 feet. With oxygen masks on, Jason and Peter landed multiple times at Leadville. Learning about all of the advanced avionics in a Cirrus to become familiar, comfortable, confident and safe was very important to Jason. This extensive training gave him that confidence and an entirely new perspective on small aircraft. “If you had told me a year ago that I would be flying a plane, I would have said you’re insane! I was so scared of flying in a small aircraft. Now I feel far safer in the air with my Cirrus than on the ground surrounded by texting, distracted, dangerous drivers,” said Jason.

To be even safer in the skies, Jason completed the Instrument Rating at CalAir Aviation. Now, Jason has over 300 hours flying in just nine months since his first flying lesson, and he sees his life as impossible without his Cirrus. The flexibility to see clients in another city and fly back in time to pick up his kids is amazing to him. That fact has made his Cirrus pay for itself countless times. “This summer I sent my son to camp, and being away for a few days, he was a train wreck. In the morning, I was able to fly and spend a few hours with him. I was back to work in time for a meeting in the afternoon. Doing that would have been impossible without my Cirrus. That ability to be there for my son was priceless,” he said.

Owning a Cirrus has also impacted his business in remarkable ways, and Jason’s relationships with his clients have never been better. “I had a client that moved from San Francisco, California to Reno, Nevada, and instead of sending the documents to him via FedEx, I decided to fly out to drop them off in person. It meant the world to him,” Jason remarked. His Cirrus gives him the best of both worlds – being a champion at work and at home.

Though, he’s run into an interesting problem. Jason has to add at least 20 to 30 minutes when he travels somewhere new. Why? With the brilliant colors and unique design of his Cirrus, Jason has people walking up unexpectedly to marvel over the aircraft and ask him questions. Needless to say, he is more than happy to accommodate extra time for others to check out his aircraft – or flying Cirrus billboard as Jason says. He’s a true advocate of the Cirrus Life and doesn’t plan on leaving it. “I’m the type of person who usually outgrows possessions, always wanting something newer and better. I won’t outgrow my Cirrus. This is it,” finished Jason.

Being the oldest in his ground school class didn’t stop Stefano Cestarelli from excelling and passing the tests for his Private Pilot License with ease. Turns out, he was a natural flyer. The opinions of others also didn’t stop him from choosing his first aircraft. “I decided not to follow the suggestions of my friends and instructors when I chose my first airplane. I thought, ‘Okay, I’ll make my own mistake, selecting my first airplane by myself.’ I picked out three different models, and in the end, I chose a new Cirrus SR20. There was no mistake in choosing this aircraft. Cirrus was the best decision I could have made,” said Stefano.

He had started out thinking he was going to be using his Cirrus primarily for business, but now an experienced pilot with more than 12 years of flying behind him and Cirrus Sales Partner for the Middle East, Stefano uses his Cirrus for adventure!

He has become a world traveler thanks to his Cirrus – flying across countries and continents. In May, Stefano and a group of 12 other pilots finished an astonishing two-week trip that started in Saudi Arabia and made stops in Egypt, Turkey, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Austria, France and Greece. Stefano first accomplished the journey in 2014 and was excited to take the voyage once again. “The highlight of the trip for me was flying over all of the beautiful landscapes – desert, mountain, sea and islands. I’m happy I can appreciate these things even more by flying in my Cirrus,” said Stefano. All of the pilots were buzzing for months leading up to the trip, and for many, this was the first time they had flown in a Cirrus.

“Every one of them was surprised to see the load capacity of a Generation 5 SR22 and all the space that there was for everyone,” he said. The weather was beautiful for the first five legs of their journey, but once they reached Venice, Italy, the weather took a turn for the worst. “The other pilots had never flown in anything but good weather before and didn’t want to go the rest of the journey. I knew I could complete the trip in my Cirrus,” said Stefano. After some flight plan reconfiguring with the unfavorable weather, Stefano left for Salzburg, Austria.

Stefano took a group of three with his SR22 on a short flight to Austria, rode back by train to Vienna and flew the other Cirrus with another group to Salzburg. “It was a piece of cake to fly full IFR in a Cirrus. Two flights in the ‘soup’ were also a great experience for pilots that only flew in good weather conditions. Our smaller group really enjoyed the time in Austria, and I’m glad we got that experience thanks to flying Cirrus,” said Stefano. When they returned to Italy, Stefano decided to leave two SR22s in Rome for scheduled maintenance and headed home for Saudi Arabia in the remaining fleet.

Stefano returned to Rome a few weeks later to gather the aircraft – but not before having just a little more fun. “We had to wait another full day for a new livery to be made for one aircraft, so we decided to a 15 airport landing day! When the job was finished, we took two more days to fly through Greece, Egypt and Jordan to get back to Saudi Arabia,” said Stefano. Though, Stefano knows well enough that his Cirrus could get him anywhere if he needed to be there by a certain time. “It was another trip to remember, and I’m looking forward to the next one!”
