Our Favorite FBO Restaurants in America

May 25, 2022

Food is a fundamental aspect of flying. Proper pilot and passenger nutrition is, of course, essential to the safe operation of any aircraft. But, select FBO restaurants — across the U.S. — take it one step further and provide an unforgettable dining experience right near the runway. So, we challenged our company pilots to aggregate their top three favorite FBO restaurants in America.

Flight Deck Bar & Grill
Rochelle, Illinois
Flight Deck Bar and Grill

Flight Deck Bar & Grill is definitely a top summer fly-in destination! It has a big, open patio and even a sand volleyball court. And, the best part is: You get to watch parachuters jump and land right in front of the restaurant while you enjoy your meal. It’s truly such a unique experience!

I recommend the BBQ pulled pork sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries.

You may be surprised by Illinois BBQ. And, sure, you’re not in Wisconsin… But, you’re close enough that you might as well grab some cheese curds for the table.

And, if you’re not flying, of course, Flight Deck has a great selection of local beers. So, get a couple of cold ones, sit out by the firepit and connect with fellow pilots and skydivers.

Holman’s Table
St. Paul, Minnesota
Holman's Table

Holman’s Table is such a beautiful spot to grab brunch, lunch or dinner! Upon landing at St. Paul Downtown Airport, you’ll, no doubt, enjoy the gorgeous view that Holman’s Table has to offer while watching everything from Gulfstreams to Black Hawks takeoff and land. The upscale ambiance gives this spot something new and refreshing over your typical airport diner while still maintaining the beautiful historical feel that you find all over St. Paul.

Farro salad with a glass of blueberry lemonade is an absolute can’t miss selection.

Mesa Grill
Sedona, AZ
Mesa Grill Sedona

Located at the world-famous (for pilots anyway) Sedona Airport, which is set atop a mesa (hence the name) above the city, the Mesa Grill delivers in almost every way. The atmosphere and scenery are out of this world. The food and drinks are very good. And, it is always refreshing to see so many non-pilots getting excited about watching airplanes take off and land. I make it a point to stop here whenever possible during Vision Jet mentorship trips. I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!

Definitely get the Blistered Shishito Peppers for an appetizer. They’re absolutely delicious!

For breakfast or brunch, Huevos Rancheros are a must. You’re in the Southwest after all! If you are feeling classic, the Eggs Benedict are top notch.

For dinner, the Colorado Red Trout is a delightful, light dish with some extra special Southwest twists.

If you’re just popping in for a quick bite and then taking off again, they have a very nice selection of mocktails. But, if you’re staying overnight try the Chef’s Scotch Tasting!
